The Complete Guide to Imperial Harvest Yellow Qinan Agarwood

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 01 May 2020

Yellow Qinan 黄奇楠

Yellow Qinan is recognised for its warm yellowish-brown agarwood colour. Well-known for its medicinal properties and satin-like lustre, the Yellow Qinan was a prized possession worn only by members of the Chinese royal family. Occasionally Chinese Emperors would bestow  the Yellow Qinan upon distinguished foreign leaders as a diplomatic gift.

The Yellow Qinan can be divided into two categories based on their physical traits and unique scent attributes.

The Exquisite Yellow Qinan (金丝结黄奇楠) (Golden Knot) has a full-bodied honey-coloured resin lining which resembles luscious golden silk. The fragrance opens with notes of amber and hints of cinnamon. The heart is enveloped with a tender floral scent. Finally, it concludes with the alluring aroma of spice and smokiness which is reminiscent of well-aged cognac.

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 30 April 2020

Estimated Reading Time: 4 mins

Buddha’s birthday falls on the 30th of April and it is one of the most important days of celebration for Buddhists all over the world.

Buddha (“The Enlightened One”) was a prince, a warrior, a spiritual leader, and teacher, whose life represents the entire foundation of the Buddhist religion.

Buddha (“The Enlightened One”)

On this sacred day, devotees all over the world offer their devout prayers to commemorate the birth of Gautama Buddha and to wish for harmony, safety and abundance for the rest of the year.

In this article, we will share the origins of the man known as Buddha today, the significance of Buddha in Imperial Feng Shui and the three important Imperial Harvest collections to commemorate this important day.

Origins

According to historical references, Siddhartha Gautama was a prince who lived in northern India and Nepal about twenty-five centuries ago.

The Earliest Thought Leader who Changed The World

Buddha (“The Enlightened One”)

In ancient times, financial resources dictated social status and class. The world is plagued with inequality among genders and races, lack of inclusiveness and compassion.

One man changed everything.

Prince Siddhartha was twenty-nine years old when his life took a complete turn. He realised his life mission is not to indulge in a privileged life of wealth and prosperity. He set his life mission to stand for equality, social progress and justice.

Through his daily meditation, he pioneered the concept of “Karma” to inspire the world to commit acts of kindness and compassion to make the world a better place.

Think Different

The story of Gautama Buddha inspires many generations of successful leaders with an important lesson - the courage to be different.

Gautama Buddha has the courage to step out of his life of material comfort and embark on the daunting mission of making the world a better place. The selfless act and teachings of Gautama Buddha has inspired many civilisations and humanity to bring about income, gender and racial equality.

Gautama Buddha’s spirit and determination inspires many startup founders and business leaders to have the same grit, determination and compassion to make the world a better place with their enterprises.

The Complete Guide to Imperial Harvest Purple Qinan Agarwood

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 24 April 2020

Estimated Reading Time: 3 mins

Purple Qinan 兰花结紫奇楠

Purple Qinan 兰花结 (“Orchid Knot”) is known for its rich reddish-brown agarwood colour. Its resin is said to resemble a vibrant orchid in a splendid full bloom.

The Purple Qinan can be divided into two categories based on physical appearance and distinctive scent characteristics.

The Exquisite Purple Qinan (极品紫奇楠) has a signature ash-grey and purple resin flowing through fine linear patterns in the agarwood. The initial top note of the emanated scent has a smooth floral characteristic which makes a delightful impression. This evolves gradually into an intensely energetic and sweet-cooling scent that refreshes the mind. Finally, this develops, matures and delivers a graceful hint of an almond-like mastic aroma.

Fine Grade Purple Qinan (精品紫奇楠) has a reddish-purple resin that elegantly meanders through the agarwood. The first impression of the Fine Grade Purple Qinan is of a subtler floral scent. Whilst it lacks the signature intense sweet-cooling scent of the Exquisite Grade, it still develops the almond-like mastic aroma which is characteristic of the Purple Qinan.

Decoding the 81 Flying Stars Combinations

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 24 April 2020

Estimated Reading Time: 4 mins

Many of us are working from home during the circuit breaker or movement control order. This makes your home Feng Shui more important than ever.

In this article, Master David will show step by step

  1. How to determine the period and facing direction of your house
  2. How to map out the San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star chart
  3. How to interpret the 81 flying star combinations in your house Flying Star chart

Feng Shui is about understanding the invisible forces that govern the well-being and prosperity of space.

It is similar to the principles of electromagnetic forces; while it is invisible to naked eyes, it affects our daily lives in major ways.

San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star is one of the key principles that help Imperial Feng Shui practitioners to map the energy chart of a house, office and retail space.

Plotting the energy chart allows us to forecast and understand the physical well-being and prosperity of the occupants and business owners.

Following which, Master David Goh will decode the secrets of 81 Flying Stars Combinations based on four highly authoritative Xuan Kong Flying Stars Classics

How to plot the energy chart based in San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star principles

To plot the energy blue print, it is important to understand the concepts of period and facing direction.

What is a house period in Feng Shui?

81-flyingstar-01_period 7

Period is a term used in San Yuan Xuan Kong Flying Star as a way to define the movement of various energies in one's home or office. It deals with the time factor and how it affects us.  There are nine periods, each lasting 20 years.

How to determine the period of a house?

  • For high-rise building (HDB, Condominium, Office Buildings)

In order to define the house period, you need to know the year your house or building has completed construction and the year and month the building is first occupied.

For example, a building is considered a Period 8 house even if construction commenced in 2003 (period 7) but completed and first occupied in Feb 2005 (period 8).

Period

Year of Occupation

1

Feb 1864 to Jan 1884

2

Feb 1884 to Jan 1904

3

Feb 1904 to Jan 1924

4

Feb 1924 to Jan 1944

5

Feb 1944 to Jan 1964

6

Feb 1964 to Jan 1984

7

Feb 1984 to Jan 2004

8

Feb 2004 to Jan 2024

9

Feb 2024 to Jan 2044

  • For landed houses (Terraced, Semi-detached, Bungalows)

For owners who stay in landed houses, the house is connected to the earth energy. Hence the period of the house is defined differently.

The landed house was constructed in Feb 1990. The first owner moved in October 1990 (Period 7) and stayed until Feb 2005. The second owner moved in May 2005.

This landed house is considered as period 8.

Next, we have to measure the facing direction of the chart.

The facing direction of the house is defined by the intended facing direction of building.

As modern architecture evolves, it is possible for a building to have multiple intended facing directions. This makes things more complicated.

Here are a few generic rules we apply to determine the facing directions of an apartment.

1. For landed properties, the main entrance/driveway will be considered as the facing direction of the house.

2. For condominiums with balcony, the facing direction will be the balcony

3. For condominiums without a balcony, the facing direction is the main window in the living room.

4. For HDB apartments with main doors facing each other and a staircase in the middle, the facing direction of the house would be the main window.

5. For HDB apartments that have a long corridor, the facing direction of the house will be the main door.

6. For HDB apartments with a balcony, the facing direction of the house will be the balcony.

Understanding the meaning behind the 81 flying star combination in each chart

81-flyingstar-01-mountain-water-star

The number on the left hand side is defined as the sitting star or mountain star.

The number on the right hand side is defined as the facing star or water star.

Mountain star governs the benefactor, health and harmony. Water star governs the opportunities, intuition and judgment.

To become wealthy and successful in all aspects of our lives, our living and working environment have to support our pursuit of success.

That means the mountain and water star have to be positioned at the right sector to help us garner benefactors, opportunities, health, harmony and success.

Master David distilled three generations of Feng Shui wisdom into a powerful and effective table that explains the various effects of the 81 flying star combinations.

The Complete Guide to Imperial Harvest Green Qinan Agarwood

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 17 April 2020

Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes

Green Qinan has a beautiful Chinese name, 绿莺歌 (Green Songbird). This is inspired by the beautiful yellow-green cross-section of the Green Qinan agarwood which resembles the Green Songbird's stunning feathers

Historical references of the legendary green Qinan

A famed author from the Ming Dynasty wrote about the difference between Agarwood and Qinan and ranked the different categories of Qinan.

The excerpt from the book is translated as follow

The main difference between agarwood and Qinan is hardness. Agarwood is hard and carving on Agarwood is akin to carving on a piece of bamboo. Qinan is soft and carving on Qinan is akin to painting on sand with a cone. The scent of Qinan is refreshing and carries the permeating scent of precious Qinan resin. The texture of Qinan is chewy and sticky when ingested.

Green Qinan is the finest grade of agarwood with colour resembling that of the beautiful feather of the Green Song Bird; it is the rarest tier of Qinan. The secondary tier would be Purple Qinan where it's colour is light green and dark. The next two tier would be the two different variants of Yellow Qinan. The entry level tier would be Black Qinan where its colour is black and slightly hard.

Glossary terms explained

莺歌绿 refers to Green Qinan

兰花结 refers to Purple Qinan

金丝结 refers to Yellow Qinan

糖结 refers to another variant of Yellow Qinan

铁结 refers to Black Qinan

The Complete Guide to Imperial Harvest White Qinan Agarwood

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 13 April 2020

Estimated Reading Time: 2 mins

Imperial Harvest Qinan agarwood is an out-of-catalogue collection. In fact, to date only 3 clients have the distinct privilege to own an Imperial Harvest Qinan agarwood.

Several VIP clients have waited 3 years for this exclusive and extremely rare collection.

Only Chinese Emperors of the past have exclusive and privileged access to this elusive and exclusive tier of Agarwood: Qinan (奇楠)

What is Qinan (奇楠)?

Qinan is the most elusive and exclusive tier of Agarwood. Since the Han Dynasty, Chinese Emperors have been offering Qinan to send their prayers to the heavens for blessings and prosperity.

A famous Poet Du Fu 杜甫 aptly summarised the rarity and value of Qinan

《与陈漳浦莘学话旧》诗:“山租输海贝,市舶贱迦楠。”

This excerpt from Du Fu’s poem is loosely translated as “Sea shell is more valuable than the rental income earned from a mountain. A piece of Qinan is worth more than the value of a municipal ship.”

In the Han Dynasty, the price of a piece of Qinan was higher than a fully functioning municipal ship.

White Qinan - Emperor Qian Long’s personal collection

Known as the emperor of the longest reign, Emperor Qian Long was an important advocate of Imperial Feng Shui. With the expert and faithful practice of Imperial Feng Shui, Emperor Qian Long ruled over an extremely successful dynasty.

His reign was characterised by peace, prosperity, and progress in arts and culture which laid the foundation of the unified China, an incredible feat that no other rulers had come close to achieving. He lived a long, healthy, and fulfilling life.

Aside from being a brilliant natural leader, Emperor Qian Long intelligently identified that the ability to change the future was superior to knowing the future - an important principle of Imperial Feng Shui.

Imperial Feng Shui utilises the finest earthly treasures such as jadeite, sandalwood, agarwood and crystals - empowering individuals to succeed naturally in all aspects of their lives - careers, businesses, investments, health and relationships.

Emperor Qian Long owned an extensive collection of Imperial Feng Shui treasures from  Imperial Jadeites to Qinan Agarwood beads to enhance his personal luck and to expand his wealth capacity. This is the reason why his reign and rule was characterised by an unprecedented level of peace and prosperity.

After 3 years of waiting, Master David finally decided to release five exclusive Qinan pendants and one string of extremely rare 108 White Qinan Agarwood Beads.

(1)    White Qinan 金丝白奇楠 – the highest tier

(2)    Green Qinan 莺歌绿奇楠 - second highest

(3)    Purple Qinan 紫奇楠 - third highest tier

(4)    Yellow Qinan 黄奇楠 - fourth highest tier

(5)    Black Qinan 黑奇楠 – the entry level tier

White Qinan is the most important tier of Agarwood in the Imperial Harvest Agarwood collection. In ancient times, only Chinese Emperors have access the White Qinan.

Power of White Qinan Agarwood

White Qinan Agarwood is strictly for the king. It empowers the most ambitious to rise to the top of their game in their respective industry.

Resin Characteristics: The presence of active tissues in White Qinan creates a strong contrast between the active fibres (white-brownish patches) and dark & rich resins. A small incision of White Qinan will reveal a dark and rich Agarwood resin underneath its white exterior. Over time, the incised area will heal and return to the signature White Qinan exterior surface.

Scent characteristics: White Qinan has five heavenly tiers of scent namely cooling, honey-like, mastic, floral and fruit aroma. Each tier of scent is distinctive, permeating and diffusive.

Design

The dragon, a mythical animal arising from an ancestral imaginary world and indissociable from Oriental culture, has multiple meanings. Here, it is a symbol of perseverance and success as well as of the power and strength that make it a master of the elements.

In ancient China, the Celestial dragon embodied a visual representation of the emperor and power, whereas today it is the ultimate symbol signifying success and happiness. A Sung Dynasty manuscript once described the dragon as having the head of an ox, muzzle of a donkey, eyes of a shrimp, horns of a deer, body of a serpent covered with fish scales and the feet of a phoenix. Invariably accompanied by thunder and rain, dragons move like lightning and whirlwinds - all powerful yet totally unpredictable.

In this article, Master David reveals the closely guarded design principles of the Imperial Harvest Qian Long Jadeite Mountain, secrets of Emperor Qian Long’s Jadeite Mountain collections and why Emperor Qian Long’s commitment to develop Imperial Feng Shui led Qing Dynasty to rule over 268 years - the longest ruling dynasty (longer than U.S.A - 175 years of independence and P.R.C - 70 year anniversary).

Who is Emperor Qian Long and why he is an important figure in Imperial Feng Shui?

Emperor Qian Long (乾隆) (r.1736-1795), the fourth ruler of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), is regarded as one of the world’s most powerful and influential figures in the 18th century.

Besides his talents in military campaigns and politics, he is also known as one of the most cultured non-Chinese ruler in Chinese history, with great intellectual and artistic accomplishments as well as a passion for Imperial Feng Shui.

Amongst the dedicated advocates of Imperial Feng Shui, Emperor Qian Long stands out the most as an passionate upholder of the ancient art of Imperial Feng Shui.

Despite his Manchu heritage, Emperor Qian Long demonstrated keen interest in the art of Imperial Feng Shui through intense engagements in all manifestations of this interest.

From exploring the sources of jadeites via military conquests to supervising production, he also encouraged Imperial Feng Shui innovation, and initiated new trends. His authority and impact on Imperial Feng Shui is impossible to overlook.

Challenges faced by Emperor Qian Long

Nature consists of auspicious physical features like mountains and rivers. Less apparent features like mountains, albeit unnoticeable to the untrained eye, dwell among sites and locations.

Only trained Imperial Feng Shui masters with years of experience are able to successfully identify these auspicious features, which makes them a prime spot for an important building.

From this understanding, Imperial Feng Shui is regarded as an essential practice to use towards our advantage.

What determines the ideal location for a site has always been a configuration which looks similar to an armchair - a broad open space protected by its sides by low lying hills.

Mountains govern benefactors, authority and harmony while Water governs wealth.

To construct a Chinese palace at the perfect Xue 穴 (Spot), flanked by auspicious mountain formations requires incredible engineering and presents intricate construction challenges.

Undaunted by the challenge, Emperor Qian Long and his team of Imperial Feng Shui advisors found the perfect solution - The Emperor Qian Long Jadeite Mountain, to activate the Mountain Star in the Imperial Palace.

Emperor Qian Long’s Imperial Decree

Emperor Qian Long worked with his team of Imperial Feng Shui masters to create a new genre of jadeite ornament known as the ‘Jade Mountain’ (玉山子), when large jadeite boulders became available from Xinjiang after 1759.

From the 1760s to the 1790s, Qian Long decreed that the imperial workshops collaborated with the local workshops in the south to produce a group of majestic jade mountains based on ancient or contemporary paintings.

2021_May_Emperor Qian Long_s Jadeite Mountains-7

The best known of these are Travelling in Autumn Mountains (秋山行旅圖); The Great Yu Taming the River (大禹治水圖) and Nine Elders of Huichang (會昌九老圖).

Emperor Qian Long’s unwavering passion for Imperial Feng Shui

Each jade mountain project parallels a momentous painting, either an ancient painting from the imperial collection or the emperor’s favourite work by a contemporary painter.

Emperor Qian Long’s dedication and passion for Imperial Feng Shui can be noted from his resolute interpretation of the jade mountain’s design and conceptualisation.

Due to the irregular shape of the jade boulder, the intricate designs and carvature demands spatial requirements from different sheets of paper or silk. Modifications and adjustments in setting or compositions have to be made as well to accommodate this transition.

Before the workshops can even produce a jade mountain, paper drafts of different perspectives and interpretations of the design from imperial court painters as well as models in wood, stone and wax had to be made and presented to Emperor Qian Long for approval before they were prepared to provide detailed instructions for the jade carvers.

2021_May_Emperor Qian Long_s Jadeite Mountains-8

Each jade mountain bears lengthy imperial inscriptions and seals to create an artifact that creates a picture colophon signature like the classic traditional painting, clearly showcasing Emperor Qian Long as the pioneer to these illustrated jades.

Emperor Qian Long’s stringent demand and standards

Unlike other stones, jade production requires a laborious grinding process with its exceptional hardness and toughness.

Emperor Qian Long’s demands for jade carvings to portray elegance and details like a painting presented a special technical challenge—to create the same effects on hard stone as brushwork on paper.

Nevertheless, by Qian Long’s time and with millennia of history behind it, the art of jade production was equipped with advanced tools that made it possible to use incisive cuts and multilayered reliefs to imitate the rhythmic brushstrokes of a painting.

Master David reveals the Secrets of Emperor Qian Long’s Jadeite Mountain

Many are curious about the Imperial Feng Shui significance behind Emperor Qian Long’s jadeite mountains.

The Qian Long Jadeite Mountain was created by Emperor Qian Long’s team of Imperial Feng Shui masters to overcome the challenges of building the Imperial palace near an auspicious landform.

In the construction of Chinese palaces, it is not always practical to site a palace near mountainous regions to tap on the auspicious energy of metal mountain formation. Hence Emperor Qian Long’s team of Imperial Feng Shui masters devised an intelligent and effective solution – the Qian Long Jadeite Mountain – to bring wealth and prosperity to the regime.

Imperial Harvest Qian Long’s Jadeite Mountain

While it's impossible to be surrounded by such auspicious landform features as we live in an urban city such as Singapore, Master David’s utmost dedication to his clients is reflected in the launch of Imperial Harvest Qian Long Jadeite Mountain.

The Qian Long Jadeite Mountain is the result of 4 years of intensive research and development to ensure our clients enjoy the same quality of Imperial Feng Shui treasure owned by Emperor Qian Long.

The Dew of Heaven Jadeite Rings 杨枝甘露翡翠戒指

Inspiration

Dew has always represented the blessings from the heavens in many cultural contexts.

In Christianity, “Dew is among the blessings that Jacob received as the firstborn; Isaac promised Jacob that as the earth would produce its fatness of grain and new wine, so also the heavens would produce dew.” (Gen. 27:27-29) and “Hence, when Jacob’s faithful remnant is restored to God’s favor after the exile, they receive again the blessings of Jacob, including the promise of dew.” (Zech. 12:8)

In Buddhism, Dew (甘露) refers to the nectar of longevity and prosperity that Guan Yin uses to bless her faithful devotees with an abundance of opportunities, benefactors and prosperity.

Design

Set with 18k solid white gold or rose gold, Master David accentuates the beauty of the Pear Cut Jadeite with round brilliant cut diamonds. With the row of pavé diamonds lending eye-catching sparkle to the jadeite, light is gathered and mirrored throughout the design, resulting in an unrivalled display of brilliance.

The Dew of Heaven Jadeite Rings are designed to be worn with the narrow tip of the jadeite pointing towards the palm of the wearer, which symbolises the illustration of wealth and benefactors ushering towards the wearer.

Heaven on Earth Ring Collection  - 天圆地方翡翠戒指

Inspiration

In Chinese Folklore, Pangu was the first living being and the creator of all. When Pangu began creating the world: he separated Yin from Yang with a swing of his giant axe, creating the Earth (murky Yin) and the Sky (clear Yang). With each day, the sky grew ten feet (3 meters) higher, the Earth ten feet thicker, and Pangu ten feet taller. This task took 18,000 years.

The story of Pan Gu inspired many generations of successful leaders and rulers that to succeed, one has to break new grounds and venture into uncharted waters with unwavering passion and determination.

Design

Set with 18k solid rose gold, Master David decorates the beautiful Oval Cut Jadeite with masterfully shaped diamond flowers. The jadeite is bordered by brilliant-cut diamonds which are shaped into a representation of burgeoning blossoms, delicately gracing the design with a touch of sophistication.

IH-CUT-blog-Heaven-2871

Purpose

The Oval Cut Jadeite incorporates intense fire and brilliance into the design as it has an increased surface area, which is ideal for clients who wish to attain massive financial breakthroughs and success with the support from many powerful benefactors as the Oval Jadeite optimises carat weights as well.

Four Paths of Prosperity 四方之财翡翠戒指

IH-CUT-blog-fourpaths-3288

Inspiration

The highlight of this collection is the signature Asscher Cut and Emerald-Cut jadeite, specifically designed to attract wealth and prosperity from all directions and ventures. The Four Paths of Prosperity create the auspicious sign known as the Hall of Mirrors.

The Hall of Mirrors is known as the gathering area for manifesting auspicious energies. The Four Paths of Prosperity Ring is also influenced by the ‘Bright Hall’ landform in Imperial Feng Shui. The bigger the area of the main facet of the jadeite, the “brighter” it would be, which in turn means the ability to accumulate more wealth and prosperity.

Design

In striking originality and glamour, this spirit is immortalised in the Four Paths of Prosperity. Set with 18k solid rose gold and white gold, Master David decorates the beautiful Asscher Cut and Emerald Cut Jadeite with rows of round brilliant diamonds. The rows of diamonds encompasses the design tastefully, which accentuates the jadeite cut flawlessly, making it truly sparkle with illustrious brilliance.

Purpose

Both the Asscher Cut and Emerald-Cut jadeite create the incredibly stunning visual effect known as the Hall of Mirrors and Bright Hall. The Hall of Mirrors is produced when flashes of light refract inwards towards the large table of the jadeite cut due to its linear and straight facets. The Hall of Mirrors together with the Bright Hall landform symbolises wealth, benefactors and opportunities coming to you from all directions, and is ideal for advancement and growth towards achieving breakthroughs and success.

Radiance of Wealth 绚丽的财富

IH-CUT-blogROW-3502
Inspiration

Representing the brilliant individuality of the Jadeite, the Radiant Cut Jadeites are supported by diamonds on both borders, illustrating the continuous support from peers and mentors, held together cohesively and completed with a long slender band, the embodiment of the encompassment of its beholder.

Design

Meticulously cut for brilliance and hand-polished to achieve a mirror-like sheen, the waves of long triangular facets accents the radiant cut, highlighting the jadeite flawlessly. The array of facets and distinctiveness of the jadeite cut is the crowning expression of timeless elegance. The slender design of the band is purposely devised to highlight the jadeite on the finger, bringing the wearer of the Radiance of Wealth into the limelight in any event.

Purpose

The Radiance of Wealth is a design that combines the best elements of emerald and round jadeite shape, which allows the radiant cut jadeite to exhibit incredibly high levels of brilliance and fire. The design intertwines the details of the other two cuts into a single individuality. With interlacing triangular facets lining the centre facet of the jadeite, it symbolises the encircling benefactors, wealth and opportunities that will navigate and support the wearer onwards towards success.

Honouring a Powerful Legacy - The Imperial Tiara Ring

Posted by Imperial Harvest on 24 January 2020

Estimated Reading Time: 2 mins

During the most glorious years of the Tang dynasty, a woman did rule, and she was one of the most effective monarchs. She was none other than Wu Zetian, the only female emperor in the history of ancient China. Under her long reign of almost half a century, the Tang dynasty enjoyed unparalleled peace and prosperity.

WZT

Wielding a strong interest in government affairs, she helped reform the education system and boosted agricultural production. More importantly, her rise to authority in a patriarchal society elevated the status of women. It's no wonder she became an icon whose influence can still be felt today.

To honour her legacy, we're unveiling the all-new Imperial Tiara Ring - a symbolic jewellery that empowers the contemporary woman with the graceful tenacity of Wu Zetian.
