Yi Xiu had barely 2 years of experience in a business development role when she joined a Japanese F&B company as a manager. Her company had wanted someone with verve to bring it forward in the new age. But being a young manager in her 20s meant she had to first overcome the challenge of winning the trust of her more senior subordinates. So she visited Imperial Harvest and got herself a Fine Jadeite God of Wealth, which she came to see as a measurement of her success today as a respected leader in her job.
Most importantly, you have to work hard in every way that you can and seize the good opportunities that come along.
I’m not really sure how I got to become the Business Development Manager. I wasn’t necessarily the most experienced – and I certainly hadn’t worked at the company for as long as my colleagues had. In a Japanese corporate culture, employees usually take years, if not a decade, before they’re even given a chance to take on a junior management post. But I think, most importantly, you have to work hard in every way that you can and seize the good opportunities that come along because nothing will improve if you don’t try.
There’s no doubt that it was a very amazing feeling. I felt that my hard work in my previous role had paid off, and I was making great progress in my career. At the same time, I was scared. After all, it was my first time being a manager! True to my fears, my subordinates, who were more senior than me, became jealous of my role and didn’t want to follow my instructions. I couldn’t command their respect, making it hard for me to lead the team.
I had arrived at that point where my career was out of my control because there were unseen factors hindering my progress.
This problem didn’t go unnoticed by my bosses. As much as I thought I could tide over this difficult period with a can-do mindset, I simply wasn’t being appraised fairly for the effort I had put in or the work I had done. I had arrived at that point where my career was out of my control because there were unseen factors hindering my progress.
I’ve never really been a superstitious person. I come from a family where hard work and focus are valued. My mother, who is a teacher, would impart these principles to me like she would to her students. However, I gained a new perspective after consulting Master David Goh. When I saw that he’s quite young, I was a little skeptical. But after hearing his stories and seeing how he could retell my life events, I felt assured about putting my trust in him.
It was also then that I picked the Fine Jadeite God of Wealth pendant, in yellow to match my favourable Bazi element, and subsequently the Agarwood bracelet. These remedies helped to forge a new path in my career.
I felt that I was getting more recognition for my work. My bosses, who used to not highly appraise me, actually gave me an increment of more than 10%. I even got the chance to travel to Japan and represent the company on NHK World. A Singaporean as the face of a Japanese company on Japanese TV? That was a huge deal and a vote of confidence in me by my bosses.
The fondest memories that I've had in my career are the moments where I have my Fine Jadeite God of Wealth and Agarwood bracelet on.
When I was invited to be a testimonee for Imperial Harvest, I didn’t hesitate. The fondest memories that I’ve had in my career are the moments where I have my Fine Jadeite God of Wealth pendant and Agarwood bracelet on. They have become a part of how I’ve succeeded in turning my career around and how far I’ve come.
I think you just got to go for it – believe in your remedies, and believe in yourself because we all deserve a better life.
